Dear Friends and Colleagues,
You are invited to join our La Trobe Archaeology Zoom webinar at 3:00 pm on Thursday, 4 March (Australian Eastern Daylight Time [AEDT]), the opening presentation in our First Semester program for 2021.
Professor Adam Brumm (University of Queensland) will speak on the topic 'Pigs, popcorn, and the Pleistocene rock art of Sulawesi'
In recent decades, Australian researchers have featured prominently in exploring the early archaeological record of island South East Asia. Professor Brumm's work has now augmented a series of spectacular discoveries by uncovering what may be the world's earliest figurative painting tradition.
Register in advance for the seminar at the following link by 12 noon, Thursday 4 March (AEDT).

To all!
A lovely group of Lakesiders (and two visitor/virgins/newcomers) joined in
for some fun at Inverloch on Saturday 20th February to celebrate Bollywood's
birthday.
Botak Chin set the run through the suburb of Inverloch, winding around the
streets, up the hill, and then down through the camping ground and to the
eastern end of town to the Bass Coast Shir Council's Native Vegetation
Offset Scheme is located. He sent the runners up the path on a loop to look
for the wildlife while the walkers were sent back along the beach. The tide
was way out in Anderson Inlet. Lots of families were on the beach playing
cricket and going out in the sea up to their knees. (I don't think it got
much deeper than that.) Eventually the arrows - which along the beach were
a bit sparse - got us to the Inverloch yacht club where Botak had arranged
for us to have drinks on the back deck. We waited for Udder and Gargoyle to
turn up - they had missed the arrows and hadn't listened to the instructions
and actually ended up back at the start. We drank another bottle of plonk
while we waited. That's when we also realised that cheap 6% white wine from
ALDI is not worth buying or drinking! When we finished the stuff we
wandered back to the start for the down downs and then Botak's baked chicken
drumsticks, Bollywood's oodles of noodles and E&B's chocolate pavlova.
All finished up just before sunset and we wandered off in different
directions.
The run was scored 1980 out of 1987. The walk was a little lower at 1900.
We all agreed that more weekend runs were required!
See happy snaps attached.

Dear Lakesiders,
We've had to do a bit of changing to the plan for Bollywood's birthday beach
run this Saturday at Inverloch. But let's just be grateful we can actually
leave home for the weekend and head to the beach!
Attached is the flyer with all the details, as well as a word document that
we want you to complete and return just so Botak Chin knows how many to
cater for (and we comply with COVID practices.)
Bring your bathers, surf board, paddle board, golf clubs and enjoy
Inverloch!
That's all. but if you missed this morning's press conference, here are the
main points of what Premier Dan said:
From 11:59pm tonight, we will largely return to the previous rules - while
keeping a watchful eye on some of the riskier settings.
There'll no longer be four reasons to leave home. The five-kilometre
restriction will no longer apply. YAY
. this virus is very good at finding our weak spot. Getting us when we're
relaxed and comfortable ...
. it's important we reduce the risk in some of our most vulnerable settings.
. having no more than five visitors to your home per day;
. limiting public gatherings with friends and family to 20.
. Masks will continue to be a big part of our defence and will be
required everywhere indoors (except at home) - at the supermarket, at the
office, at the pub when you're getting up to pay.
. Masks will also be required outside if you can't physically
distance from others.
Those other defences -
. checking in when we're heading out,
. washing our hands,
. keeping our distance - will remain just as critical.
. the best protection there is:
. getting tested if you have any symptom, no matter how mild.

Please note that due to COVID Lockdown, there will be NO FORMAL LAKESIDE RUN this week. Instead, please run or walk your own trail, within 5km of your home, with no more than one other person from outside your household; then join the hash circle via zoom at 7.30pm and tell us all about it! The most entertaining bulls... um... run report will get a free Lakeside Down Down, lovingly provided by Pointy as Grogmaster, when we next meet in person (hopefully the following week!)
BYO booze and nibbles. Wear hash clobber. Be prepared for a laugh with some good storytelling!
EnB is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting this Wednesday to take the place of Back Again’s Lakeside run #1986.

Dear All.
Please find attached POG's writeup of my run last week, along with my
montage of the event showing that at least the circle was not a stuff up,
and that's because we didn't have 1500 Fun Runners invading our space. Oh
well.let's hope GG can do better next week - with all his extra experience
at setting hash runs. (Insert smiley face here)
In my defence - I did not lay trail in the Shrine precinct because I know
it's sacred. The trail went through the observatory. If you'd all carried
the set of quiz questions I so meticulously set you all would've known that.
(insert another smiley face here)
Cheerie bye - until next week.
