Dear All
I have just returned from running Hash House Harriers, that’s what Hash House Harriers do
- (harrier [har-ee-er] noun, “a cross-country runner”).
Sadly, though I learned tonight, as we were drinking beer after the cross-country run,
that other harriers had formed a view that there was a false and unjustified comment made
about my reputation or character in a broadly circulated e-mail to the Lakeside Hash House
Harriers e-mail list. I iterate, this was the opinion formed by others on reading the
e-mail, I have no interest in reading it.
But I want to be very clear about recent posts, of which I have tried to refrain from
entering into.
During the unfortunate events of Covid 19 a group of hash house harriers decided to
continue, where laws permitted, to casually meet and continue the theme of setting trail
and running trail, and if possible having a beer afterwards. I did not establish this
group I am simply a longtime Hash House Harrier (e-mail =
HashHouseHarrier@hotmail.com<mailto:HashHouseHarrier@hotmail.com>, facebook =
www.facebook.com/HashHouseHarrier<http://www.facebook.com/HashHouseHarri…)r>), and
being a hash house harrier I set some trails – with a small number of people choosing to
be hash house harriers on a Wednesday night it has been necessary for keen hash house
harriers to set several trails.
Then recently during one such casual gathering of hash house harriers in a park in
Richmond I was confronted and instructed to the effect, “here’s a book, here’s a list of
rules you must follow, and you must provide me with your name, address, telephone number,
e-mail” (TFN and DNA swab were not on this list I don’t think}. Now imagine my surprise.
I have simply marked a trail from a park that people can choose to do with as they please.
But somebody – I learned after the demand – purporting to represent Lakeside Hash House
Harriers – not there to partake and follow trail, or anything, but simply to shove a book
of rules and demand personal identifiable information (PII) from me. In my view this was
uncalled for and entirely inappropriate.
Following this Hash House Harrier night I posted to the Lakeside Hash House Harriers
facebook group that I am not associated with the group, and removed myself from the group.
Let me be clear the sole purpose of attendance was evident, and that was to demand PII
and insist I must read, follow, and subscribe to a set of rules that Lakeside Hash House
Harriers had apparently determined applied to a trail that I marked, and subsequent
gathering of consenting adults in a park – compliant with the laws of Victoria.
Following my post where I disassociated myself from lakeside Hash House Harriers, as I
would any group that felt it had the right to place such demands upon me, it was written
that the hash house harrier run that night was in some way “my hash”. This was a baseless
misinterpretation or worse, and given the deterioration that has led to this e-mail I must
only interpret it as worse because I have explain (in the public domain) that I do *not*
lay any claim to any Hash House Harriers. Except perhaps the Antigua Rum Shop Hash House
Harriers which I co-founded - I am simply a hash house harrier who hashes.
I want to be clear:
· I did not establish, what is known as the Lakeside Lockdown Liberation Hash House
Harriers (L3H3)
· I was not at the first run
· I volunteered to set a run, as laws permitted, which turned out to be the 2nd
run
· I have simply gone out of my way to set Hash House Harrier trails to actually keep
a Wednesday night Hash running (as have others)
· I have no interest in what hash group I run with or how many runs I have done with
any particular Hash – I run Hash, I do not collect arbitrary milestones on “official
runs”
· I ask that people stop impugning my reputation or character
I want to be removed from this mailing list please.

Subject: [Members] Zoom invitation - Lakeside Zoom Meeting tonight at 8pm
EnB is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting tonight at 8pm.
Topic: Lakeside Hash - Stuff to Discuss
A. What hashing have you done since March 18th 2020 (incl bike hash and interstate hash
runs, and The Liberation Lockdown H3);
B. Tell us all the fun you had at these events;
C. Tell us how much you want to resume normal, or “COVID-Normal” hash running;
D. Tell us what you think resumption of Lakeside hash should look like; or maybe you say
Lakeside hash has already resumed, in which case, tell us why you’re not there.
(N.B. I would love to be at Shiny Dick’s run tonight but I have an injury as well as a
Year 10 daughter doing her first Year 11 exam tomorrow and she needs support. Cooch Will
be at the run tho.)
So... there’s a committee meeting on Saturday and all your useful comments will be fed to
the committee for their consideration.
If everyone decides to attend Shiny’s run instead of my zoom, that would be great as it
would indicate that Lakeside is already resumed! Bit for those who are not able or ready
to attend in person, I hope to see you on screen at 8pm.
