Dear E & B,

Unfortunately, I can't come along this week, but I can't resist putting in my two bob's worth about Firenze. Not only have I been to Florence, but I count it fairly much as my mother-city, it being the home of my Great-great grandma, Angelina Brucciani.

1)   Beware the footpaths of Florence. The narrow streets of the Medieval city are framed by even narrower footpaths, wide enough for only one or two people to pass. So, you are constantly tempted to veer out onto the street. But that would be a fatal error, as the frenetic hordes of motor-scooters aren't stopping for you and will clean you up.

2)  Another fact about Florence that not many people might know. It pongs.  Yes,  it  seriously smells.  Whether it's because the city is set low in the water table next to the banks of the River Arno and the frequent floods have damaged the old sewerage pipes, so that the stuff leaks out where it shouldn't, I don’t know. .But every time you open the door to your hotel room or AirBnB apartment, you’re hit with this weird, low-level sewage smell.  After about half an hour you don't notice it anymore, but it reappears every time you come back to the place. If it were in Melbourne, you just couldn't take a lady up to your room.  And when you get home and open your suitcase,  you clothes reek of it.

In any case, Forza  F.C. Fiorentina !!

Ciao,

MB

Dear GM, Committee and other rif-raf of LSH3 (like me),

As an ex-GM-twice of LSH3, something has come across my path (today) that makes me think we really should have part of this week’s circle discussing our travels in the past:  why not Italy – say, Firenze or Pisa, Lerici and taking lessons on how to make pasta, followed by the sights and sounds of New York.

Surely there must be someone in the hash who has travelled to those beautiful places for a memorable holiday.  We all need to hear about and see pictures of the holiday to make us drool with jealousy… if they can still remember.

I’d like to offer a beautiful prize to someone who has been to those places IF they can bring photographs to the hash on Wednesday.

Dear Lakeside Hashers

The blurb: We’re an independent micro brewery and bar serving small batch craft beer from tank to tap. Housed in a former mechanics garage, it has 12 beer taps and an al fresco beer garden serving fresh frothies from tank to tap.

The run: NIckelB - aka the River Whisperer - will weave his magic in, around and over the mighty Yarra River. Dig out and wear his 80th Birthday run t-shirt. What about the poem on its back, a reworking of Bob Dylan’s Blowin' in the Wind:

"How many trails must a man run down before he calls it a day?

Yes ’n’ how many years can a Hasher run

Before he calls it a day?

Yes ’n’ how many years can a Hasher run

Before they find legs give way?

Yes ’n’ how many aches will it take till he knows

It is time to say nay nay?

The answer my friend is blowin' in the wind.

The answer is blowin' in the wind.”

Good job NickelB. Says it all.
