Hi Lakesiders,
Just a reminder that the Australia Day combined event is on tomorrow -
hosted by us: Lakeside H3. Let's put on a good event and show up in full
force!
Those who said they would volunteer: please show up between 1030-1100 if
you're helping with set up. Please be prepared to stay til 3, washing
dishes and clearing up if you're volunteering for clean up.
Are you aware that there is world wide interest in hashing this weekend for
Australia Day and in aid of the Rural Fire Service, Bush Fire Relief and (in
our case) the Country Fire Service and various fauna and flora relief?
Black Hole in Scotland has put word out to all hash chapters about holding
an event this weekend, especially in memory of the Cooma hasher, Rover, who
was killed while protecting his property. He was also a volunteer
firefighter in the area around Cooma. Some of the overseas hash clubs are
donating directly to his fire brigade. It has always been our intention to
send any excess funds that we make to the Country Fire Authority.
With this in mind, any profits from the raffle will go towards the CFA.
Lakeside funds will pay for most of the raffle prizes and any donations of
wine, beer, sporting or hash goods would be appreciated. If you want to
donate clothing, please ensure it's in its original packaging or still
attached to its labels and price etc. Bring it along tomorrow, unwrapped or
wrapped in transparent wrapping or a ribbon or something. The less Lakeside
has to pay for the more money we can send to the CFA.
See you tomorrow.

Dear Lakeside Hashers
For this run we celebrate Chinese New Year - the Year of the Rat - with a run from the Brookville Gardens in Toorak. We know the venue as the rotunda next to the Toorak Primary School. Botak and Bollywood have a knack of making their runs memorable (remember the giveaway last time?) and in this case the title of the run is spiced with mystery, humour and intrigue. Ranking the first in the zodiac, rat represents wisdom. Rumour has it that he obtained this position by outwitting the ox.

Dear Lakeside Hashers
January would not be complete without a run from Klingons front yard. Klingon promises that there is still a patch of St Kilda that has seen neither stamper or chalk nor sweaty hash foot. On the last New Moon run Klingon found a quiet retreat among the rocks on the St Kilda foreshore for the drink stop. How clever was that! (Not a copper in sight.) We sipped and slurped as the waves rolled in. A very impressive effort! On On to his front yard. Lakesiders, prepare yourselves for a shock: The Tree Is Dead - long live the tree!!

Dear Lakeside Hashers
For this run we journey to the wide open spaces of Box Hill. Or should that be Box Hills? There are five of them and Im sure the hare will take up and down every one. Expect to run through a number of parks - Wembley, Sparks Res, Blacks Walk, Blackburn Creeklands - as 2Bottoms takes us out into the fresh hilly air and into a starry night. Look up for magnificent views of the city of Melbourne. Libido will weave magic of her own with a delicious meal. Not to be missed!
